Diesen Roman habe ich mit gemischten Gefühlen gelesen. Die Mission der kleinen Truppe ist abenteuerlich, an vielen Stellen spannend und enthält sehr atmosphärische Passagen. Ich mochte die magischen Geschöpfe – Magnus, Sid und Hamish – und fand die Botschaft, dass es wichtig ist, Grenzen zu setzen, um sich nicht ausnutzen zu lassen, sehr gelungen. Allerdings bin ich immer wieder über kleinere Brüche im Erzählfluss gestolpert: Perspektivwechsel, holprige oder unlogische Übergänge zwischen Szenen und übertriebene Darstellungen. Auch Olivias unkluge Entscheidungen – und zuvor Gaelins unrealistische Erwartung, dass sie im Feenreich etwas erreichen kann – wirkten auf mich nicht ganz stimmig.
Trotz dieser Schwächen habe ich die Geschichte insgesamt gern gelesen und freue mich auf die Fortsetzung.
Fazit: Ein magisches Abenteuer mit starken Ideen und liebenswerten Figuren, das erzählerisch jedoch noch etwas runder werden dürfte.

Life in Rowanswood turns out to be far more complicated than Olivia expected. She loses her connection to magic, the former mistress of her late husband shows up uninvited, and the fae prince Gaelin is taken captive. Together with the water crone Anthea and a few magical companions, Olivia ventures into the fae realm to rescue Gaelin and his sister.
I read this novel with mixed feelings. The group’s quest is adventurous and often exciting, with many wonderfully atmospheric moments. I really enjoyed the magical creatures – Magnus, Sid, and Hamish – and appreciated the underlying message about the importance of setting boundaries and not letting others take advantage of you. However, I kept stumbling over small inconsistencies in the storytelling: abrupt shifts in perspective, clumsy or even illogical scene transitions, and some exaggerated moments. Olivia’s unwise decisions – and Gaelin’s earlier assumption that she could make much of a difference in the fae realm – didn’t quite ring true for me either.
Still, I enjoyed the story overall and look forward to the continuation.
Conclusion: A magical adventure with heart and promise, though the storytelling could use a bit more polish.
